The veterinary assistant supports the veterinarians and veterinary technicians to keep treatment areas clean and assists with nursing duties. The veterinary assistant will educate clients on pet health, treatments and medications, ensure the safety and comfort of patients, and oversee continuity of care. They will collaborate with team members to create a positive, comfortable environment for patients.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing compassionate care to patients
• Performing all duties in accordance with hospital medical policies and procedures
• Ensuring treatment areas, exam rooms, and cages are clean and organized
• Performing diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests to outside laboratories
• Assisting in restraining pets
• Collecting blood samples
• Restocking areas of the clinic
• Performing clinical laboratory procedures
• Performing TPRs
• Assisting technicians in preparing animals for surgery
• Admitting patients for procedures and appointments, records weights, and medical information pertaining to patients
• Properly cleaning all surgical and dental instruments after use and autoclaves packs
• Assisting other team members as required
• Understanding and carries out oral and written directions
• Maintaining positive, cooperative relationships with employees
• Performing ear cleanings
• Taking safety precautions for exposure to toxins, drugs, anesthesia, and radiation
• Complying with DEA and OSHA regulations
• Abiding by the employee handbook
• Answering phone calls and making appointments

• Lifting and carrying animals up to 50 lbs. Walks and stands for extended periods of time

Education requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
